Paul is a strategy consultant. He is a founder-director of Whetstone Group.
He has over 20 years experience of advising businesses – from household names to start-up companies – and public sector on competitive marketing. His background is as a long-standing director of the strategic consultancy group, SRU, specialising in the development of business to business and consumer marketing strategy, often deploying formal qualitative and quantitative market research for this.
He has a strong track record in working with clients through the implementation of major projects in strategy development and economic regeneration. He has also worked on a range of projects in the broadcast and new media sectors. Examples of his clients here include The Mill, BESA and The Economist Group.
He leads the Whetstone assignments for the V&A at Dundee and for Kielder Water and Forest Park. In work on the Dundee project and on a proposed National Design Centre, he researched best practice for the creation of ‘beehives’ – groupings of businesses to create new hives of industry – which we believe would be extremely relevant to the successful creation of a strong media industry presence around the Olympic site.
Paul has been an adviser to the London International Festival of Theatre and a founder member of its Business Arts Forum. He was Vice Chairman of the Smithfield Trust – the local business group in EC1 involved in considering possible futures for the Smithfield market. He is a full member of the Market Research Society and has a degree in Politics from Durham University.
