Johnny Martin

How do I make the case?

A former FD, Johnny has completed three exits for Baring Venture Partners, JO Hambro and Monument Trust. He now promotes financial understanding and has helped thousands of entrepreneurs and business managers overcome their fear of finance, demystifying and explaining business numbers and jargon to entrepreneurs.

Johnny started his career at Ernst & Young, qualifying in 1987. He soon went into industry, joining Celador Productions (inventors of Who Wants to be a Millionaire) as Group Financial Controller. From there he went to Pearson Head Office, then on to work in a joint venture fund with Rupert Hambro (BMB-Hambro). Johnny then joined Pegasus Assurance, one of the BMB-Hambro investments, as FD. This was the first of three completed trade sales – the second was a restaurant coffee house chain that was sold to AIM quoted Maddisons. As MD and FD, Johnny identified the purchaser and led the sale process to a successful completion. The last was the trade sale of e-learning specialist ALP, a re-seller of Learndirect to the rural community. He has wide-ranging sector experience including restaurant/retail, e-learning, TV, food and web information.

Johnny is the Financial Fitness Coach and guest speaker for Intuit, makers of QuickBooks accounting software, a partner at the British Library Business & IP Centre, a guest columnist for Real Business and Better Business, and a mentor for the School of Communication Arts, the UK’s leading advertising school.
